Yesterday, Anthony took part in a presentation at this year’s CIoF Fundraising Convention, alongside Rachel Tilley of Born Free Foundation and Paul Hayward of Engaging Networks, on making automation work with limited resources. |
If you’re currently attending the convention (which is still on at the time of publication), make sure to say hello to Ant!

(You can also get a glimpse of the immensely popular “Bendy Ant Pens.” Don’t worry, I’ll make sure they return in the future.)

The Rise of Micro-Donations
Recent trends indicate a significant increase in micro-donations, with donors contributing small amounts more frequently. This shift emphasises the importance of accessible donation platforms and the potential of recurring giving programs. Charities can capitalise on this by simplifying donation processes and highlighting the cumulative impact of small gifts.
You can explore more about this topic by reading the article over at Fast Company.

Enhancing Cybersecurity: Preparing for the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill
With the introduction of the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill, charities must strengthen their cybersecurity measures.
Key steps to consider:
- Conduct Regular Risk Assessments: Identify vulnerabilities in your IT infrastructure.
- Implement Strong Access Controls: Use multi-factor authentication and limit user permissions.
- Train Staff on Cybersecurity Best Practices: Ensure all team members recognise phishing attempts and follow secure protocols.
- Develop an Incident Response Plan: Prepare for potential breaches with a clear action plan.
Staying proactive in cybersecurity not only ensures compliance but also protects your organisation's reputation and donor trust.

We’re mixing it up this month by giving Ant and Mike a break, and instead handing this section over to me! |

As someone who is still learning about the sector, one thing continues to stand out; everyone is really busy.
Most teams we work with already have more on their plates than hours in the week. That’s why, when it comes to data and reporting, the question I keep coming back to isn’t “how do we collect more?” — it’s “how do we make what we already have more useful?”
I’ve learned that the real value often isn’t in a complicated tool or an advanced model — it’s in a well-structured report that answers a real question quickly. Something someone can open during a busy Monday morning and actually use to decide what to do next.
That’s the lens I’ve started to apply to all our work; will this save someone time? Will it help them explain something to their team, or spot an opportunity they might have missed? If it does, then that’s where data really starts to earn its place — not as another thing to manage, but as a partner in getting things done.
